MissionariesNovember:
The African country of Malawi is one of the world’s poorest countries. Many problems combine to keep Malawi in poverty: drought, declining soil fertility, low levels of education, government corruption, high population density and the pandemic of HIV/Aids. The average life expectancy in Malawi is less than 42 years.
Justin Majawa, a native of Malawi, grew up as an orphan. As a teenager, he was adopted by a pastor who mentored him and enabled him to go to college. While in college, Justin created Save Orphans Ministries (SOM). The Reformed Church in America is one of the partners assisting SOM and we at Hingham have a direct share in the support of SOM.
Save Orphans Ministry provides food, education, and clothing to orphaned children through direct support to orphan-care groups. Orphans take part in Bible Camps and Kids Clubs where they learn Biblical values and truths from their study of Bible stories.
SOM also works with caregivers, teaching them more effective farming techniques, and providing equipment and animals to families who take orphans into their homes.
If you had the opportunity to hear Justin speak to our Sunday School, you surely remember this dynamic young man. Justin was married this past summer and he and Ruth are living in Holland, Michigan. Justin has been accepted into the Master of Divinity program at Western Theological Seminary. In their recent e-mail, he says he “enjoys the classes although he finds Greek difficult”. He asks for our prayers and says “pray specifically for Justin’s seminary support which is a big step of faith for us now.”
If you would like to support SOM personally, pick up one of the brochures in the north narthex, describing the school sponsorship and food security projects. Char Baumann
