About Us

Students

HRC Youth Ministries consists of variety of exciting, fun, and meaningful programs for middle school and high school students. One of the very amazing things about our ministry is that our students are drawn from anywhere within a 15-20 mile radius of Hingham, and many of them come from families who do not call HRC their church home. We have students that attend public schools (Oostburg, Plymouth, Sheboygan, Cedar Grove-Belgium, Ozaukee), Christian schools (Oostburg and Sheboygan), as well as those that are home schooled. Despite this diversity in schools we have a long tradition of being a tight knit and welcoming group that has fun, grows, and is there for each other.

Pastor Andy

Andy Baker serves as the youth pastor at Hingham Reformed Church. His responsibilities include leading the middle school and high school ministries, working with our adult leaders, drinking excessive amounts of coffee, Mountain Dew, and Red Bull, coordinating numerous other youth activities, and frequently defeating students at Wii games. He also loves visiting students at school, attending their events, and having them trash his house. Outside of youth ministry Andy enjoys following European football (soccer for the unenlightened out there) and NCAA Basketball. Before coming to Hingham Andy served as the student ministry director at the Harlingen Reformed Church in Belle Mead, NJ and was on staff at two summer camps in Iowa (Inspiration Hills and City of Peace). He has a BA in religion from Simpson College and an M. Div from Princeton Theological Seminary. Andy has a beautiful wife named Andrea and an amazing two year old named Annalysa.

About our Programs:

Middle School Youth Group:

Our middle school group meets every Wednesday from September to March from 7-8pm, and 6:30-8pm April through May downstairs in the youth room. We also meet most Wednesdays during the summer from 6:30-8pm. This time features a variety of fun and exciting games that can run the gammant from really gross (chewed candy and this game smells), to super active (capture the flag, most dangerous game, musical chairs of death), to meaningful (Romans and Christians). The point is we have a TON of fun! Meetings also feature a message by Andy that is relevant, features various media, and involves students in a fun way. Many weeks also feature time for students to discuss topics in small groups with one of our adult leaders. The middle school ministry also plays host to The Event, an annual all nighter that features a trip to a fun location (ex. Blue Harbor Waterpark), tons of food, video games, crazy active games, movies, and more. In addition, this group goes on a fall retreat to beautiful Silver Birch Ranch in northern Wisconsin and on a summer retreat to a large lake cabin “up north.”

High School Youth Group:

High school youth group meets every Sunday night September through May from 5:30-7:00pm in the youth room, and most Sunday’s during the summer. The high school group features many fun activities throughout the year, including Melon Fest, Bigger and Better Hunt, Video scavenger hunt, a super slip and slide, and more. This group also features relevant messages presented in a multi-media style, as well as weekly small group time. Our high school students also love to hang out, tell stories, and simply have fun while getting to know each other better. Our high school group goes on a winter trip each year, either to a youth conference or to take in the many winter activities at Silver Birch Ranch. They also take a summer trip, which this year was to do mission work in Houma, LA.

Growth Nights

Starting this year on the third Sunday of every month, September to May, HRC Youth Ministry will  host Growth Nights. These nights feature contemporary worship  led by our student praise band (featuring worship music from groups such as David Crowder, Hillsong United, and Chris Tomlin), drama, small groups for middle school, high school, and post-high, as well as opportunities for adults. This year one of those adult opportunities will be Parenting Your Teenager, a DVD series by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott led at HRC by Bob Neeb. This is not only a terrific opportunity for students, but for people of all ages.
